Mrs. Barbara Sue Swain Hawkins was born May 6, 1933 went to be with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ on Sunday December 11, 2016 with her family gathered around her. Barbara was a devout Christian, a member of The First Baptist Church of Loyall, having spent many prior years at the Riverside Baptist Church where she taught the adult women’s Sunday School classes and held several other positions in the church. Attending and taking her children to Sunday School and Church was a priority for her.
Barbara was the Virtuous Woman, Proverbs 31. She was always taking care of her family without a complaint. Always humble, cheerful and accompanied with a loving smile. She and Jim raised eleven children, working hard to see that every need was met.
Barbara was born to the Late Ernest and Hazel (Delph) Swain.
She was Devoted to her Husband of 53 years, The late James L. (Jim) Hawkins. Barbara was also preceded in death by her son, Charles Andrew (Andy) Hawkins; Granddaughter, Angel Flynn Sturgill; Great Grandson, Jayden Smith; Sisters, Fay Scott and Brenda Lou Swain; Brothers, Richard Linville Swain; Brother in Law, Darrell Hicks and a Daughter in law, Lana Turner Hawkins.
Mrs. Hawkins is survived by her children, James Robert Hawkins of Tazewell, TN, Shirley Hill, Peggy Hawkins, Timothy Hawkins and wife Billie, Debra Brown and Husband Eddie, Richard Hawkins and wife Jeanette, Emily Turner and Husband Tom, Ernie Hawkins and wife Joey, Donnie Hawkins and wife Lisa and Rebecca Hawkins, all of Harlan.
Her beloved Grandchildren, Melody Hawkins, Robbie Hawkins, Barbara Christine (Christy) Cantrell and Husband Rob, Jason Hill and wife Misty, Brian Hawkins, Charles Murphy, Seth Murphy, Justin Hawkins and wife Nikki, Brandon Hawkins and wife Sarah, Tiffany Hawkins, Frances Maggard, Kayla Ryan Hawkins, Daniel Turner, Halee Hawkins, Jared Hawkins, Ashley Hawkins, Michael Flynn and wife Christie, Greg Flynn, Paula Schlimper and Michelle Polk.
Greatgrandchildren, Hayden Hawkins, Lucas Hawkins, Lana Bush, Luke Hill, Savannah Hill, Robbie Cantrell, Joseph Cantrell, Cameron Hawkins, Courtney Polk, Mason Polk, Sarah Flynn, Christina Schlimper, Heather Schlimper, Scott Sturgill, April Flynn and awaiting the arrival of Zander Justin Wane Hawkins.
Brothers and Sisters, Paul Swain and Wife Eleanor, Delores Mitchell and Husband Bill, Flora Mae Hicks and Brother in law Herbert Scott.
Numerous nieces, nephews and church family that loved her.
Barbara Requested that rather than talking about how good she was, to share the plan of salvation as laid out in the Bible and the saving grace of our Lord Jesus Christ.
Visitation will be Tuesday, December 13, 2016 from 6PM to 8PM in the Chapel of Mount Pleasant Funeral Home. Funeral Services will be held Wednesday, December 14, 2016 in the Chapel at 12PM. A brief Graveside service will follow at Resthaven Cemetery. Grandsons will serve as pallbearers. Pastor Bob Witter will be officiating.
