Irene Helton Oaks

Irene Oaks, age 55, of Somerset, KY passed away March 8, 2015 at the Lake Cumberland Regional Hospital, Somerset, KY. She was born November 25, 1959 to the late Grant and Martha Saylor Helton. She was a retired school bus driver with the Harlan County Board of Education.

Besides her parents, she is preceded in death by brothers, France and John Helton, sister, Laura Caldwell, nephew, Mike Helton, and Willie Wynn.

She is survived by husband, Andrew Oaks, Jr., children: Misty (David) Walls, Donnie (Kelley) Helton, and Travis Helton all of Somerset, KY, Heather (Michael) Sturgill of London, KY and David Opferman of Barbourville, KY, brother, George (Christine) Helton of Somerset and sister, Sarah (Ray) Goff of Somerset, grandchildren, DJ Helton and Stephen Helton of Somerset, Mason Sturgill of London, and a host of nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be Wednesday, March 11 from 5 to 8pm at Mount Pleasant Funeral Home. Funeral will be Thursday, March 12 at 1PM with Reverends Jeff Mills and Toby Johnson officiating. Burial will be at the Ben’s Branch Cemetery, Bell Co., KY with friends and family serving as pallbearers.
