Betty Ann Smith, age 66, of the Baxter community, passed away peacefully on April 5, 2026. She was born on September 8, 1959. She was a devoted follower of Jesus Christ and a faithful member of the Harlan Church of the Nazarene. Her faith was the foundation of her life, guiding her with strength, kindness, and love. She was a woman of quiet grace and unwavering devotion, known for her compassionate heart and the way she cared deeply for her family and those around her.
She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Stan Smith of Baxter, KY; her parents, Edward and Nancy Wilburn of Baxter, KY; two brothers, Earl (Eddie) Wilburn of Asheville, NC and Stevie Wilburn of Baxter, KY; and one sister, Laura Rose Wooten of Baxter, KY.
She is survived by her loving daughter, Kelly (Jordan) Tackett of Hazard, KY; one brother, Benny (Christie) Wilburn of Baxter; one sister, Elizabeth (Jerry) Lampkins of, KY Baxter, KY; and her sister-in-law, Dianne Black of Asheville, NC. She also leaves behind five nieces: Nancy (Wesley) Johnson of Cumberland, KY; Bethany Bull of Baxter, KY; Kimberly (Brandon) Riddle of Baxter, KY; Kaitlyn Lampkins of Baxter, KY; and Annalesia Lampkins of Baxter, KY; two nephews: Steven (Tasha) Wilburn of Cawood, KY and Jeremiah (Natasha) Black of Asheville, NC; one special great niece: Marley Riddle of Baxter, KY; two special great nephews: Noah Johnson of Cumberland, KY; and Benjamin Maiden of Baxter, KY; and her five cherished grandchildren: Aiden Eric Zachary Burkhart of Ages, KY; Arabella Ruth Smith of Ages, KY; her "baby girl" as she called her Amelia Rose Lampkins of Baxter, KY; Cassidy Ann Tackett of Georgetown, KY; and her "baby boy" as she called him Dylan Earl Tackett of Hazard, KY. She is also survived by her special lifelong friend, Ginger Hensley of Harlan, KY; special family members, Sandra Kay O’Neal of Mingo, WV; and Ronnie Wilburn of Mingo, WV; and a host of other family and friends who will forever cherish her memory.
She was a good woman—strong in her faith, rich in love, and deeply devoted to her family. Her presence brought comfort, her kindness touched many, and her legacy will live on in the hearts of all who knew her. "Well done, good and faithful servant... Enter into the joy of your Lord." — Matthew 25:23
Visitation will be Wednesday, April 8 from 10am to 12pm at Mount Pleasant Funeral Home. Funeral will follow at noon with Wayne Terry, Jim Johnson and Jeremiah Black officiating. Burial will be at the Roselawn Cemetery at Rosspoint, Kentucky with friends and family serving as pallbearers.
