Carolyn Sue Napier “Susie,” a beloved wife, mother, sister, aunt and friend departed from this earth on May 27, 2026, at Hazard ARH. She was 77 years old.
She was born in Harlan, Kentucky on April 21st, 1949, where she met her husband, Rodney Napier, whom they shared two children, Billy Napier and James Napier. Throughout her life they lived in various places including Chicago, Illinois, Dayton and Hamilton, Ohio, Daytona Beach, Florida, Sharpsburg, Kentucky and then back to her hometown of Harlan, Kentucky for her final years. She believed in the Christian Faith, enjoyed cooking and caring for others, as well as pampering herself by going to the hair and nail salon. She was a very clean housekeeper and loved keeping everything tidy and in order.
She is preceded in death by both her parents, Luther Helton and Anna Helton “Rainey,” her husband, Rodney Napier, both her sons, Billy Napier, and James Napier, brothers, Bobby Helton, Don “Duck” Helton, James Helton, and Danny Helton, and sister, Bonnie Helton.
She is survived by her brothers, Shelby Gene Helton, and wife, Connie Helton, Lee R. Helton and wife, Nadine Helton, Bruce Helton and wife, Betty Helton, Gary Helton, Ricky Helton, and Jerry David Helton. Sisters, Shirley Norman, Alice Mason, Diane Slusher, Brenda Middleton, and Lisa Helton. Granddaughter, Nicole Atwell and spouse, Will, of Daytona Florida, Grandson, James Napier of Hamilton, Ohio, and Great Grandchildren Abigail and William, special nephew, Jerry Fultz, great nieces, Westlyn and Brendle Ward, and a host of nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.
Susie lived a very vibrant life filled with love, kindness, and joy. She touched many hearts and will be deeply missed by those who knew her. Although she is no longer with us, her kindness, love and beautiful memories will forever remain in our hearts. She may be gone but never forgotten.
Visitation will be Thursday, June 4 from 5PM to 8Pm at Mount Pleasant Funeral Home. Funeral is Friday, June 5 at 1PM in the chapel of Mount Pleasant with Bruce Helton officiating. Burial will be Wednesday, June 10 at 2PM at Crown-Hill Cemetery, Sharpsburg, Kentucky.
