Debra Osborne McCalla, age 65 of Cawood Kentucky passed from this life to her eternal Heavenly home on June 12, 2020, after a long illness. She was the devoted and proud mother of Rachel Marie McCalla who passed away on April 19, 2001, in a tragic automobile accident at the age of 23. Rachel was her only child and life was never the same after losing her; but she is now reunited with her precious daughter, Rachel, and her Savior, Jesus Christ. She was instrumental in starting the organization for parents who had lost children called " Those left Loving." Even in her grief, Debra was always willing to help parents cope with the tragedy of losing a child in death. She was a wonderful daughter, sister, aunt, cousin, and a compassionate friend to all who knew and loved her. She was a member of the Cawood Friendship Baptist Church.
She is preceded in death by her daughter, Rachel McCalla, and her father, P.M. Osborne of Cawood, Kentucky. Also preceded in death by her maternal and paternal grandparents
Debra was born in Cincinnati, Ohio on May 23, 1955, and spent part of her childhood years in Cincinnati before the family moved to Harlan County, Kentucky in the late 1960s. She attended school in Cincinnati and Harlan County Kentucky.
She is survived by her mother, Elsie Osborne of Cawood, Kentucky; Sisters, Priscilla Carter (Jack) of Whiteville, Tenn, Tracy Osborne, and (fiancé, Ernest Bowman Jr.) of Evarts, Kentucky. Nieces: Joanna Lee Carter, of Nashville, Tennessee, Diana Carter Whatley(Gabe) of Georgia. Nephews: Roy Britton III and fiancé Erica North of Cawood, Ky. Tyler Grubbs and fiancé Cheyenne Hamblin of Barbourville, Ky. and special great-niece, Darla June Britton. Also survived by a host of cousins, brothers, and sisters in law, nieces and nephews of Cincinnati, Ohio, Michigan, Indiana, Tennessee and Minnesota.
No visitation services will be held, but an outdoor service will be held at the gazebo at the Resthaven Cemetery on Tuesday, June 16, 2020 at 1 p.m., where friends and family are welcome to come to pay their respects before burial beside her beloved daughter, Rachel McCalla. Services will be conducted by Sean Daniels and Darla Carter Heflin. Friends and family will serve as pallbearers. In lieu of flowers, Debra requested that donations be made to the Cawood Friendship Baptist Church. Special thanks to Jr. Bowman for the kind and compassionate care shown to Debra during her illness.
