Donald Gilbert, passed away on May 15, 2026, at the age of 64. Born on May 6, 1962, he was a graduate of James A. Cawood High School and went on to earn an associate's degree from Somerset Community College. Donald served honorably in the United States Navy for 15 years, demonstrating his devotion and discipline. After his military service, he applied his skills in risk management at Job Shop, where he was respected for his reliability and expertise.

Donald was a family man who valued the bonds he shared with those closest to him. He is survived by his son, Christopher Gilbert and Christopher’s fiancé, Nakita Risner; his daughter, Candice Swanson; and his cherished granddaughter, Scarlett Swanson. Donald is also survived by his brothers Eddie (Janie) Gilbert, Russell (Debbie) Gilbert, and Elmer (Allen) Gilbert, along with his sisters, Margaret Hornsby and Shirley Gilbert. He carried with him the love and support of a large circle of family and friends who will dearly miss his presence.

He was preceded in death by his father, Gordon Gilbert; his mother, Doris Shackleford; stepmother, Alene Gilbert; and former partner, Carla Hopson. His beloved fur babies, Sadie and Zoey, also passed before him.

Donald had a passion for building intricate Lego creations and was an avid video game player, often sharing his enthusiasm during family gatherings. He also enjoyed exploring the local flea market, a pastime that brought him joy and connection with his community. These interests reflected the creative and playful spirit that endeared him to many.

A visitation/gathering will be Friday, June 19, 2026 from 4PM to 7PM at Mount Pleasant Funeral Home with the Harlan Honor Guard performing Military Rites at 4:30PM.
