Helen Saylor, born June 27, 1952, in Harlan, Kentucky, left this world on July 12, 2025 at the Harlan Appalachian Regional Hospital. She lived her life defined by her fierce independence and love of family and will truly be missed.
Helen’s curiosity and desire to learn about the world led her to immerse herself in reading, genealogy, and history. She sometimes spent hours researching family connections and she enjoyed sharing the stories and photographs she found along the way. She delighted in crafting and decorating, bringing creativity to every project. She listened to different types of music but her favorite was hearing Mike Sowards sing. Those who knew her well knew she had a playful side and her independent but quiet spirit shaped a life lived on her own terms, leaving a unique mark on the world.
Preceding her in death are her devoted parents, James Harvey Harris and Mary Octavia Kirk Harris, along with a sister, Loretta Helton. Although their absence left an undeniable void, their memories guided the way Helen led her life with strength and perseverance.
Helen is survived by her beloved Daughter, Janet Stephens; Her Son, David (Kelly) Stephens; Her Grandson, Jordan (Brooke) Stephens and Great-grandchildren, Gunnar, Rhett and Ford. She maintained close ties with her cherished Brothers, Tommy Harris and Roy Harris and her loving Sisters, Connie Goldsberry, Dorothy Jones and Jean White.
In this time of sorrow, we celebrate her life and legacy as it continues to shine upon the hearts of those who love her.
