Hobert Middleton

Hobert Middleton, a dedicated coal miner and beloved family man, passed away on January 9, 2026, at Harlan Appalachian Regional Hospital at the age of 58. Born on August 10, 1967, in Harlan, KY, Hobert spent 30 years of his life working in the coal mining industry, a profession that reflected his strong work ethic and commitment to his community.

Hobert’s life revolved around his grandchildren, with whom he shared an unbreakable bond. He delighted in their presence and took immense joy in being a part of their lives. His legacy will live on through them and the countless memories they created together.

He is survived by his special companion of 8 years, Cheryl Collins; his son, Jacob Collins; his daughters, Heather Hicks and her husband Dakota, Shayna Collins, and Courtney Collins; his brother, George Middleton; and his sister, Sheila Middleton. His grandchildren, Raelynn Engle, Emmalee Engle, Lane Hicks, Bailey Hicks, Dalton Noe, Oakland Collins, Caylee Ann Yount, Carmynlee Yount, Briar Grace Yount, Posey Ann Yount, and Ripp Yount, Paxton Middleton, Remington Smith were a source of great pride and happiness for him. Additionally, Hobert is cherished by his special friend, Teddy Smith, his special nephew, Daniel Hensley, as well as several nieces, nephews, family, and friends, who will all miss him deeply.

Hobert was preceded in death by his parents, Hobert and Thelma Middleton, whose love and guidance shaped the person he became.

Visitation will be held on January 15, 2026, from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM at Mount Pleasant Funeral Home with the funeral service will following at 7:00 PM with the Reverend John Carter officiating. Interment will take place on January 16, 2026, at 12:00 PM at Hicks-Middleton Cemetery in Cranks, KY.
