James Gross

James Edward Gross, 95, of Bledsoe, Kentucky passed away Wednesday, October 14, 2026, at the Highlands Medical Center. He was born on February 3, 1931, in Arlington, Indiana to the late John Orville and Cleo Philpot Gross. James was a hard worker that spent some time working as a logger then moving over to becoming a coal miner where he worked 24 years for Scotia, where he made sure his family was provided for every day. He loved spending time outdoors when not working and always went the extra mile to make sure each of his family members knew how much he loved and cared for them.

Along with his parents, James is also preceded in death by his wife, Callie Couch Gross; two sons, Bobby Gross, and James Gross Jr; one daughter, Carolyn (Gross) Lewis; nine brothers, Kenneth, Orville, Kelly, Charles, Lester, Lloyd, Fred, William, and Floyd Gross; three sisters, Ruby Cobler, Baye Gross, and Viola Gross; father & mother in law, Chester & Stella Couch; two grandchildren, Valerie Lewis, and Rodney Gross; and one great grandchild, Christian James Griffith.

He is survived by his four children, Dean Gross & wife Janie of Baxter, Ky, Sue Baker & husband Dexter of Bledsoe, Ky, Gary Gross of Bledsoe, Ky, and Paul Gross & wife Kannie of Bledsoe, Ky; one son in law, Billy Ray Lewis, of Bledsoe, Ky; one brother, John Gross & wife Susan of Dayhoit, Ky; eight grandchildren, James (Devin) Griffith, Jerry (Aprille) Griffith, Amy (Brian) Maas, Becca Gross, Bobby (Crystal) Gross, Hanna (Sam) Slusher, Cassie Farley, and Olivia (Mike) Collins; fourteen great grandchildren, Callie Griffith, Caleb Griffith, Kaitlin Griffith, Kylie Griffith, Conner Griffith, Hailee Ball, Jacob Gross, Destiny Braasch, Alexis Seal, Trinity Lively, Bella Slusher, Brandon Collins, Brooklyn Burkhart, and Arianna Briant; as well as eight great-great grandchildren, and a host of other special family and friends.

The family will receive friends on Saturday, October 17, 2026, from 4:00 PM until 7:00 PM in the chapel of Mount Pleasant Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held after at 7:00 PM with Preachers Jim Huff, and Darrell Turner officiating. Interment will be on the following day, Sunday, October 18, 2026, at 11:00 AM at the Couch Cemetery in Bledsoe, Kentucky with family serving as pallbearers.
