James "Garfield" Grubbs, born on March 15, 1955, in Harlan, Kentucky. He steadfastly built a life by hard work and dedication most notably as a coal miner, a profession that underscored his relentless spirit and commitment to providing for his loved ones.
Garfield was preceded in death by his Parents, Henry and Ellen Grubbs, whom he admired deeply and who laid the foundation for the values he held throughout his life: Brothers, Therman Napier and Irvin Rogers; Sisters, Betty Moore, Mallie Roark, Delah Gailey and Martha Rogers.
Garfield departed this life on February 5, 2026, leaving behind cherished memories and a profound impact on those who knew him. He is survived by his Son, James Grubbs and Wife, Crystal; Daughter, Lisa Grubbs; Brother, Lee Robert Grubbs; Sister, Soffie McClain; Mother of his Children, Caroline Grubbs; Grandchildren, Jasmine Bush and Husband, Aaron; Heaven Miller and Partner, Dustin Smith; Courtney Caldwell and Husband, Joseph, and Emma Grubbs; Great-grandchildren, Julianne Bush, Waylon Bush, Cayden Miller, Aurora Smith and Brentley Caldwell. In addition to his immediate family, Garfield is remembered fondly by numerous nieces, nephews, and extended family and friends.
A visitation will be held on February 12, 2026, from 12:00 PM to 2:00 PM at the Little Creek Pentecostal Church in Cawood, Kentucky, followed by a funeral service at 2:00 PM with the Reverends Kenny Clem and Steve Daniels officiating. Interment will follow at the Ellen Rogers/Grubbs Cemetery at Little Creek with family and friends serving as pallbearers.
