James Walter Thomas, 63 of Harlan, KY departed this life Friday July 17, 2020. He was born to Cas and Etta Thomas on October 21, 1956. He was a life-long resident of the Fairview Community. He was the youngest of eight children.
He is preceded in death by his parents Cas and Etta Thomas, Three brothers: Andy, Paul Ed, and Billy Ray Thomas, Two Sisters Christine Burkhart and Janice Gladys Thomas.
He is survived by his loving wife of 26 years Sharon Kaye Herron Thomas, Sons Charles Edward Walter Thomas of Harlan, James Walter Thomas Jr and wife Heather of Cumberland, sisters Wanda Nadine Maggard and husband Arnold of Putney and Flora Irene Saylor and husband Robert of Ages-Brookside. Also leaving 3 grandchildren, Logan, Autumn and Chasity as well as a host of nieces, nephews, friends and family to mourn his passing, A special friend whom considered him a Father, Angela Marie Tackett.
Walter was a member of The True Temple of God of the Free People on Harlan Gas Road. He enjoyed life with his family, he repaired small engines for numerous years. He loved fishing, watching westerns and the neighborhood children, he never met a stranger, he loved going to church services.
Visitation will be in the Chapel of Mount Pleasant Funeral Home on July 21, 2020 from 5 to 8 PM. Funeral service will be on Wednesday July 22, 2020 at 2 PM with the Reverends Darrell Perkins and Rob Gilbert officiating. Interment will follow in the Harlan Gas Cemetery with family and friends serving as pallbearers. Face coverings are required to be worn during your visit to aid in the prevention of Covid-19 as Mandated by Kentucky's Governor Andy Beshear's Executive Order 2020-586.
