Jesse James Cornett, passed away on March 7, 2026 in Baxter, Kentucky. Born on September 18, 1946, in Letcher County, Kentucky, Jesse lived a life characterized by hard work, dedication, and a deep love for his family.
Jesse was a proud member of the United Mine Workers of America (UMWA), reflecting his commitment to his work as a coal miner. He found joy in the simple pleasures of life, enjoying hunting and fishing in the beautiful landscapes of Kentucky. An avid supporter of UK basketball, he eagerly followed the team and cheered them on. Furthermore, he cherished the moments spent attending Bluegrass Festivals, reveling in the music and camaraderie that such events fostered.
His legacy is carried on by his loving daughter, Elizabeth Estes, and her husband, Randall. Jesse was a cherished grandfather to his grandsons, Braden Estes and Britt Estes, who admired him deeply. He was also a great-grandfather to Braylen Estes and Gracelyn Estes, who brought immense joy to his life. Jesse’s three sisters, Callie Bruce, Freddie Thomas, and Amanda, provided him with additional support and companionship throughout his life, along with numerous family and friends who held him in high regard.
Jesse's journey was marked by the unwavering love of his late wife, Ann Elizabeth Cornett, with whom he shared 48 years of marriage. He was also predeceased by his parents, Dennis and Sudie Cornett, as well as his brothers, Roy, Milton, Sam, Henry, Tommy, and Bill, and sisters, Dorris, Wanda, and Mellie.
Friends and family are invited to pay their respects during visitation from 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM on March 11, 2026, followed by a funeral service at 1:00 PM to be held at Mount Pleasant Funeral Home, located at 122 N Cumberland Ave, Harlan, Kentucky. The service will honor his remarkable life and the enduring impact he made on those who knew him.
The family will receive friends on Wednesday, March 11, 2026, from 11 AM until 1 PM in the chapel of Mount Pleasant Funeral Home, with funeral services following immediately after. Interment will follow in the Platts Fork cemetery at Wallins KY with friends and family serving as pallbearers.
