Luther E. Blanton

Luther E. Blanton, 82 of Wallins, passed away on February 17, 2026. He was born October 20, 1943 and was the Son of the Late Jess Blanton and Lucille Blanton Childers.

He was a Military Policeman in the US Army and served in the Panama Canal. He worked at the Harlan County Community Action Agency, Inc from 1978 until his retirement in 2008. At the time he became a member of the Harlan County CAA Board of Directors and the Eastern Kentucky Concentrated Employment Program, INC (EKCEP) Board of Directors. He always had a love of High School Basketball and he attended over 1,800 basketball games and kept the scorebook for 56 years. In 2019 he was inducted in the 13th Region Boys Basketball Coaches Hall of Fame and in 2022 received the 13th Region Basketball Media Lifetime Achievement Award. He attended the Wallins Baptist Church, a Church that he loved. He also posted local obituaries on Facebook of people who live or used to live in the Wallins area because that was the only way many people could find out about the deaths of people from the area. He also loved to visit Rax and Dairy Queen to see his friends.

Mr. Blanton is preceded in death by his Father, Jess Blanton; Mother, Lucille Childers; Step Father, Conville Childers; Maternal Grandparents, Horace and Ada Wilson; Paternal Grandparents, John and Bess Blanton.

Luther is survived by his Sister, Donna Trent of Lexington; Niece, Lora Lynn Burger of New Bern, NC; Great Nephew and Niece, Hunter Matthew Burger and Jordan Ashley Burger of New Bern, NC; Great Great Niece, Miki Delilah Swigart also of New Bern, NC; Step Sister, Anita Faye Smith and Husband, Shelton of Wallins Creek.
