Mattie Sparks, born on January 18, 1934, in Harlan, Kentucky, passed away peacefully on May 2, 2025, in Bledsoe, Kentucky. A beloved mother, grandmother, and friend, Mattie’s legacy is one of love and devotion, marked by the lives she touched in her community and family.
A founding member of the Senior Citizens Center at Bledsoe, Mattie had a zest for life, participating in her church and cherishing the moments spent gardening and tending to her flowers. Her nurturing spirit extended to her family, where she showered her children and grandchildren with unwavering love and support.
Mattie is survived by her loving children, Keith Caldwell and wife Brenda, Debbie Robinson and husband Rick, and Regina Gross. Her grandchildren, Angie Huff and husband Jason, Matt Caldwell and wife Shannon, Bekki Cope and husband Matt, and Brad Smith and wife Kayla, will forever carry her memory in their hearts. She was a proud great-grandmother to Garrison Huff, Addy Caldwell, Mason Caldwell, Noah Smith, Emily Smith, and Blake Cope. Additionally, she is survived by her sisters, Elsie Pennington and Brother Charlie Shepherd, as well as many nieces, nephews, family, and friends, who deeply mourn her loss.
Mattie is preceded in death by her parents, Charlie and Lucy Shepherd; her husbands, Clark Caldwell and Charlie Sparks; and her beloved brothers and sisters: Billy, Odell, Melvin, Dennie, Clyde, Elvin, Anne Wilder, Lena Howe, Ida Estridge, and Joan.
Visitation will take place on May 4, 2025, from 1:00 PM to 3:00 PM at Mount Pleasant Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held directly after at 3 PM with the Reverends Darrell Turner and Denver Brock officiating. Interment will follow on Monday, May 5, 2025, at 10 AM in Burns Cemetery at Dingo. The family requests everyone to meet at the cemetery. Family and friends will serve as pallbearers.
Mattie Sparks leaves behind a rich tapestry of memories; woven from the love she cultivated in her lifetime. Her spirit will continue to shine brightly in the lives of her family and friends, reminding all who knew her of her kindness, generosity, and the love she effortlessly gave.
