Pete Dean, a beloved member of the Harlan community, passed away on August 26, 2023, in Lexington, Kentucky. He was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather, leaving behind a legacy of love and compassion. Pete was born in Harlan, Kentucky, the place that held a special place in his heart throughout his life.

Pete's dedication to service began during his time in the military. He served in the Army for three years and later joined the Army National Guard. With unwavering commitment, Pete served for an impressive 24 years, retiring with the rank of Sgt. 1st class. His bravery and selflessness were evident in his service to his country.

Beyond his military career, Pete was previously employed at the Harlan County Board of Education and worked diligently as a manager at the Cawood Water Department. His hard work and dedication helped improve the lives of those within the community he cherished so deeply.

Pete's faith was an integral part of his life. He was a devout follower of the Lord and served as a faithful servant throughout his days. His love for God radiated through every action and interaction he had with others. Pete found solace and strength in his spirituality, uplifting those around him with his unwavering faith.

Family meant everything to Pete. He shared 47 beautiful years of marriage with his soul mate Sharon Dean. Together they raised their two sons, Jay (Maria) and Bill Dean, instilling within them lifelong values of love and perseverance. Pete's grandson Kelton Pete Dean brought immeasurable joy into his life, and he treasured every moment spent with him.

In addition to his immediate family, Pete is survived by his sister Pat Dizney from Florida and brother-in-law Bob Campbell. He had a close bond with his cousins Hobert Cornett and Norma Gail Hill who held a special place in his heart.

Pete's warm and caring nature touched the lives of many. His friendship was cherished by all who knew him. Pete had a way of making everyone feel valued and loved, leaving a lasting impression on those fortunate enough to have crossed his path.

Outside of his professional and familial responsibilities, Pete had a passion for the great outdoors. Fishing and hunting were among his favorite pastimes, providing him with tranquility and fulfillment. He also had an avid interest in collecting guns, appreciating their craftsmanship and historical significance.

In his spare time, Pete also dedicated himself to various community organizations. He was an esteemed member of the Howard F&AM Lodge No. 819 and was an active member in the Harlan Mission Outreach. Pete's commitment to helping others was truly remarkable, demonstrating his compassion for those in need.

The services to celebrate Pete Dean's life will be held at Mount Pleasant Funeral Home in Harlan, Kentucky. Visitation will take place on August 30, 2023, starting from 12:00 PM until 2:00 PM, followed by a Funeral Service at 2:00 PM with the Reverend Sean Daniels officiating. Interment will follow in the Fields Cemetery at Cawood, KY with friends and family serving as pallbearers.

Howard Lodge No. 819 F&AM will perform Masonic Rites in the chapel of Mount Pleasant Funeral Home. Harlan Honored Guard will provide military honors at the graveside.
