Shirley Joyce Noe Swiesz, 82 of Harlan, passed away in her beloved church house, surrounded by her family and loved ones on March 7, 2026. She was born to the late Jacob Lloyd Noe II and Sarah Elizabeth Halcomb Noe on February 20, 1944. She was a well-established author, who has authored and co-authored many books and enjoyed writing Quilt Pieces for the local newspaper. She loved writing about the history of Harlan County and mountain life. She loved her family and the Lord. She always helped others, which was shown by her cooking and serving meals at Christ Hands.
Ms. Swiesz is preceded in death by her Parents; Husband, Walter Joseph Swiesz; Siblings, Lewis Haggard Noe, Jacob Llyod Noe III, Okie Noe, Minnie Opal Noe, Agnes Lois Noe and Lona Allene Noe.
Shirley is survived by her loving Daughters, Sara Esther Seashole and Husband Dr. Samuel Gray Seashole, Katharine Alleen Kolwicz and Husband Thaddeus Joseph Kolwicz Sr. and Mary Roddey and family; Grandchildren, Lillian Samantha Nolan, Thaddeus Joseph Kolwicz Jr. and Wife Stephanie and Megan Elizabeth Kolwicz; Great Grandchildren, Alaina Kate Nolan and Alisa Cecilia Kolwicz; Nephews, Louis Noe and Rodger Noe; Special thank you to Marybeth and Michelle, for being by her side when she needed it most.
A Celebration of Life will be held on April 12, 2026 from 10AM to 1PM in the Chapel of Mount Pleasant funeral Home. Graveside Service will follow after 1PM Cornett Cemetery.
Services will be livestreamed on Shirely’s Facebook page, Journey of a Mountain Woman.
