ABOUT US

We have years of experience caring for families, from all walks of life. Each family comes to us because they know we are leaders in our profession, dedicated to excellence in service and have the highest integrity.

We at Mount Pleasant Funeral Home have a combined 45 years of experience at meeting the needs of families in their times of grief. We are expanding our family gathering area to meet the changes of funeral customs. This will allow us to offer our families the comfort and convenience of honoring and celebrating the life of their loved one. This area will be available for family and churches to bring food. We can offer assistance in arranging these details. This is part of the caring service Mount Pleasant offers to the families that call upon us in their time of need.

Our History

Mount Pleasant Funeral Home was once home to the Hensley family who built the home in the early part of the 20th century. Mr. Hensley opened Cumberland Funeral Home in the downstairs are of the house, while he and his family resided upstairs. In the 1950's, new owner, Harold Ball and wife, Virginia, changed the name to Mount Pleasant Funeral Home. They remained the owners until the 1980's when Jimmy and Brenda Smith took ownership. In the late 1980's, young businessman, Dewayne Jackson, and wife, Darla, became proud owners of Mount Pleasant. Dewayne devoted himself to Mount Pleasant until his untimely death in 2010. After Dewayne's death, Darla Saylor Jackson and son, Holden Jackson continued the Mount Pleasant legacy. They currently own and operate the funeral home.

Mount Pleasant is still at the historical 122 North Cumberland Ave. location in downtown Harlan, KY. While many updates and changes have occurred, Darla strives to keep the sprawling old home as original as possible.
